Judges Told Cut Payouts
More news that the legal profession is coming under pressure. The rising cost of claims has lead to former High Court President Nicholas Kearns warning that awards need to be reduced and Judges told cut payouts.
In an as yet unpublished Government report by the Personal Injuries Commission (PIC) it was found that payouts here are among the highest in the world.
For instance, the average motor claim is almost €21,000. This compares with close to €4,000 in the UK, €1,500 in France and between €2,500 and €6,000 in Germany.
This is obviously quite startling and needs to be addressed urgently by the Government and the Courts. For more detail, see here.
