Local Property Tax Deductions from Source Property Insurance
This year has seen a huge increase in people having the Local Property Tax deducted from welfare, pensions and pay. The number has increased to 87,000 which is an increase in excess of 30,000 since last year.
There were 56,200 deductions were made in 2015. The 87,000 is however a relatively small amount considering the 1,700,000 households paying the tax.
In the light of this increase of non-payment Revenue hasincreased its efforts to collect the money.
Revenue also has the authority to collect money from the bank accounts of property owners who have not paid. However, to date, they have not done so.
in extreme cases Revenue refers over to the Sheriff who can seize goods to the value of the tax owed.
3,055 cases were referred to the Sheriff since 1 January 2015.
